Sakshi malik Wins India’s First medal i.e. Bronze at Rio Olympics

Sakshi Malik of India beats Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan 8-5 in the women’s wrestling 58kg bronze medal match.Sakshi fought back from 0-5 down to seal the bout 8-5 in her favour. With seconds left on the clock, she produced a three-point move to seal the bout and India’s first medal at Rio 2016 Olympics.

Wrestling has now become an individual sport with highest number of medals for India in Olympics. . Earlier, wrestling was tied with shooting with four medals each in the quadrennial event.Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav clinched a bronze in 52-kg freestyle wrestling in 1952 Helsinki Games, Sushil Kumar won bronze at Beijing Olympics and Silver at London 2012, Yogeshwar Dutt won a bronze in London and now Sakshi has given India their fifth wrestling medal in Olympics.
