Renault India has conducted the first media drive of the Renault Kwid 1.0 AMT Today , ahead of its market launchon August 22.
Renault has been extremely busy post the launch of the Kwid and we know it is a capable car because well, it won the 2015 NDTV Car and Bike Award. When the Kwid first hit the scenes, Renault India had made it clear that the car will come with an Automated Manual Transmission and we applauded that decision but then we also noticed a small piece of plastic covering in the shape of a dial right next to the switches for the power windows, and realised the innovation that Renault was bringing to the table.
The launch was only imminent as the French car maker’s dealerships across the country are already accepting bookings for the model at an initial amount of Rs. 10,000, whereas the official prices will be only available next week.

The USP of the Kwid 1.0 is under the hood. It is powered by an all new 999 cc three cylinder SCe engine producing 68 PS and 91 Nm. The Kwid 1.0 is claimed to offer a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio of 97 PS/tonne and fuel efficiency of 23.01 km/L.The new 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol motor is likely to make under 70bhp of power and will come paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. With the new model, the company is taking the fight against Maruti Suzuki and its list of 1.0-litre hatchbacks including the Alto K10, Wagon R, Celerio as well as the Hyundai Eon and Tata Tiago. Additionally, Renault is also working an on Easy-R AMT version that will face competition from the Alto K10 AMT and the upcoming Tata Tiago AMT.
